THE WOD:
Tonight's WOD was great! We warmed up by learning how to do an Olympic lift: the Barbell Snatch. - That was pretty cool. We also warmed up with some squats and some wall balls.
5 ROUNDS FOR TIME:
400 meter run
20 kettle bell swings- over head (I used 26 lbs)
10 wall balls - (I used a 10 lb ball)
It was tough but I can see a difference, I can FEEL a difference! I was able to push through all of it and really make some headway on my time. I didn't rest too much, it was mostly moving from one exercise to the next. I kept telling myself "the next part will be easy! You can catch up on your breathing then." - knowing full well of course that running was next and I hated that, or that the wall balls were staring at me ready to kick my butt. Somehow it really helped to keep me going though, and to an extent I was able to get a good 'rest' and a rhythm going. It's not as easy as you might think to run a mile and a half when you have to do it in 1/4 mile increments between exercises. Plus since the last WOD on Tuesday I kept second guessing myself as to which round I was on. Usually I just based it on who was ahead of me (since I have been the last to finish in the past), the last two times though I was middle-ish of the pack and though its an awesome feeling, I need to start paying more attention to where I'm at.
I finished a mile and 1/4, 100 kettle bell swings, and 50 wall ball/squats in 28:15. I was pretty happy with that!
After the WOD a few of us hopped up on the cage to try to learn or teach how to do pull ups. Megan and Leah were kind enough to help me with jumping pull-ups and the lead in (with feet on a box) for a kipping pull up. I was able to do 5 of those in a row but I admit I did feel pretty silly! At the rate I'm going I should be able to do pull-ups in maybe 4 - 5 weeks! (I've only been going to Crossfit for 3 weeks and I've seen immense progress!)
In the movie Forest Gump, there is a scene where Forest has rocks thrown at him and is being taunted by some bullies. Jenny yells "Run Forest! RUN!" and he does, he runs, and runs until those leg braces that have held him back for so long break off, piece by piece allowing him to move forward faster and stronger until eventually all the pieces fall off and he's FREE! - I feel like that. I mean I'm not quite to the 'free' part yet but I do feel like my 'leg braces' have lost a few screws and plates. I am no where near where I can be completely leg brace free but those mental and emotional walls are slowly coming down with each crossfit class I take. I am able to try new things with out fear of failure, because if I fail - I know its only temporary. I'll succeed eventually! Keep yelling "Run Laura! RUN!" - I know I WILL be at the point where there won't be anything to hold me back! I can feel the braces loosening already. . .
Since it's a month later I'm happy to report that I have new pictures! See them each month on the 5th!
